Katerina von Bennigsen, raised in Hamburg, has established herself as a remarkable lyric soprano of her generation. Her repertoire includes leading roles in the Italian and German repertoire such as Violetta in "La Traviata", Gilda in "Rigoletto", Adina in "L'elisir d'Amore", Sophie in "Der Rosenkavalier", Pamina in "Die Zauberflöte" und Gretel in "Hänsel und Gretel".

From 2018 to 2024 she was a member of the ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden, where she appeared in major roles including
Susanna  in "Le nozze di Figaro", Musetta in "La Bohème", Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Ännchen in "Der Freischütz",  Blonde  in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail",  Despina  in "Così fan tutte", Adele  in "Die Fledermaus",  Amanda  in "Le Grand Macabre", Gretchen in "Der Wildschütz", Wanda  in "Die Grossherzogin von Gerolstein".

In the 2025/26 season she makes her house debut as
Gilda at Aalto-Theater Essen and at Oper Graz. At Deutsche Oper am Rhein she returns as Gretel and Adele and at Theater Bonn she appears in the world premiere of Param Vir's opera "Awakening" as Princess Yasodhara.
Further guest engagements have taken the soprano to numerous renowned houses, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Köln, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Bühnen Halle, Gärtnerplatztheater München and Teatro communale di Modena.

Katerina von Bennigsen is also in demand as a concert soloist, performing the soprano part in
Mahler's Symphony No. 2 at the reopening of the Beethovenhalle in the season 2025/2026, as well as in concerts with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden at the Semperoper.

Katerina completed her vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with  Prof. KS Hanna Schwarz, Prof. Carolyn James  und  Prof. Burkhard Kehring  specializing in Lied. Already during her studies, she made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera as  Bubikopf  in "Der Kaiser von Atlantis" and participated in several productions of the opera studio there. She further refined her skills in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Montserrat Caballé, Edda Moser, Helen Donath, Margreet Honig and John Norris.

Throughout her career, Katerina has worked with outstanding conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Omer Meir Welber, Stefano Ranzani, Paolo Arrivabeni, Konrad Junghänel, Jonathan Darlington, John Fiore, Srba Dini
ć, Alexander Soddy, Petr Popelka and Dirk Kaftan.
